Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What material is this seal made of?
These weatherstrips are made from EPDM rubber — the industry-standard material for automotive weather seals. EPDM offers superior resistance to UV, ozone, temperature extremes, and compression set compared to PVC or neoprene alternatives.
Q: Will this fit my 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JLU)?
Yes. This kit fits all JK (2007-2018) and JL (2018-2022) Wranglers, including 2-door and 4-door Unlimited models. Just confirm you have a hard top — this product is not designed for soft tops.
Q: How long does the seal last?
With proper installation, the EPDM strip typically lasts 5-7 years under normal conditions. EPDM does not degrade from UV exposure the way cheaper materials do, so sun exposure won't shorten its life. The adhesive bond, if applied to a properly cleaned surface, should hold for the lifetime of the strip.
Q: Can I remove the freedom panels after installing this?
Yes. We recommend installing the strip on the rear hard top section (below the freedom panel line) if you frequently remove your front panels. This keeps the seal functional and out of sight when the panels are off. The strip is thin enough that the panels still seat and seal normally.
Q: Will it leave residue if I remove it?
The adhesive is designed to be paint-safe. If you need to remove the strip, gently heat it with a hair dryer or heat gun on low, peel slowly, and clean any remaining adhesive with a 3M adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol. In most cases, it comes off clean with no damage.
Q: Does one kit cover both sides?
Yes. Each order includes 2 strips — one for the driver side and one for the passenger side. This gives you a complete seal across the full width of the windshield frame.
Q: What's the difference between this and the factory seal?
The factory hard top seal is a foam gasket attached to the hard top itself, and it compresses and degrades over time. Our EPDM strip serves as a secondary barrier — it fills the gap at the leading edge where wind and water first make contact, preventing them from reaching the factory gasket in the first place. It's an upgrade, not a replacement.
