Description
Upgrade Your Cracked OEM Cap: 68157291AA Filter + Billet Aluminum Housing Cap (Multi-Color Choice)
The OEM 68065612AA plastic fuel filter cap on your 2011–2020 Ram 6.7L Cummins is a known weak point. Heat cycles, vibration, and even slight over-torquing cause cracks that let air into the fuel system — leading to hard starts, P0087 low fuel pressure codes, and potential CP4 pump damage. The fix? A CNC-machined billet aluminum cap that will never crack, plus a 5-micron 68157291AA fuel filter to keep your fuel clean.
Available in five colors — Silver, Black, Red, Gold, and Green — so you can match your truck's accent theme or just add a little personality under the hood.

Why Switch to an Aluminum Cap?
-
🔩 Eliminate the #1 Filter Service Headache — The OEM plastic cap is the most commonly replaced non-wear item during fuel filter service. Stripped hex, cracked body, leaking O-ring groove — forums are flooded with these complaints. One aluminum cap and you're done for life.
-
💨 Stop Air Intrusion — A hairline crack you can barely see is enough to let air into your common-rail fuel system. Symptoms: crank-no-start, stalling under load, limp mode. A solid billet cap eliminates this failure mode entirely.
-
🎨 Build-Matched Color Options — Five anodized finishes let you color-coordinate with your engine bay, suspension components, or truck's exterior accents. Silver for a clean OEM+ look. Red for a performance vibe. Black for stealth. Gold or Green for something unique.
Key Features
-
✅ 68157291AA 5-Micron Filter — Dual-layer synthetic filtration media captures 98% of emulsified water and sieves out contaminants down to 5 microns. Direct replacement for Mopar, Fleetguard, WIX, and Baldwin equivalents.
-
✅ CNC Billet 6061-T6 Aluminum Cap — Machined from solid aluminum billet, not cast or forged. Threads are single-point cut to exact OEM pitch. Hard-anodized in your choice of Silver, Black, Red, Gold, or Green.
-
✅ Precision Hex for Socket Wrench — The hexagonal top accepts a 28mm or 1-1/8" socket with zero risk of stripping — unlike the OEM plastic hex that rounds off after a few services.
-
✅ Corrosion-Proof Anodizing — The anodized layer is chemically bonded to the aluminum surface. It resists diesel fuel, engine degreasers, road salt, and underhood chemicals.
-
✅ Complete Kit — Includes filter element, billet aluminum cap, and replacement O-ring. One box, everything you need.

Installation
- Locate the front fuel filter housing under the hood (driver-side)
- Place a rag underneath to catch fuel drips
- Remove the old cap with a 28mm or 1-1/8" socket
- Pull the old filter element and O-ring
- Lubricate the new O-ring with clean diesel; install on new aluminum cap
- Insert new filter element into the housing
- Hand-thread the new cap, then torque to 18 ft-lbs (25 Nm)
- Cycle ignition to RUN (don't start) 3–5 times to prime
- Start engine, inspect for leaks
⚠️ Torque Warning: The billet aluminum cap is far stronger than the plastic housing threads. Always use a torque wrench set to 18 ft-lbs. Over-tightening can damage the housing — not the cap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the difference between this and the black cap listing?
A: This listing gives you multiple color choices (Silver, Black, Red, Gold, Green) to match your truck's style. The black-only listing is identical in construction — same billet aluminum, same fitment — just offered as a single color option for simplicity.
Q: Will the colored anodizing fade over time?
A: Hard anodizing (Type III) is extremely durable and UV-resistant. It will not fade or discolor under normal underhood conditions. Unlike paint or powder coat, the color is embedded in the aluminum oxide layer — not sitting on top of it.
Q: Does the cap fit both front and rear positions?
A: This cap is designed for the front (underhood) fuel filter housing only. The rear filter housing uses a different cap design. Using this cap on the rear position may not seal correctly.
Q: Can I use an impact gun on this cap?
A: Absolutely not. The cap is strong enough to handle it, but the plastic housing threads are not. Always use hand tools and a torque wrench.
Q: Is the filter the same 68157291AA as the OEM?
A: Yes — same fit, same 5-micron rating, same dual-layer media design. It meets or exceeds Mopar specifications and is manufactured in our IATF 16949-certified facility.
