Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will this fit my 1405 carburetor?
A: Yes — the 1478 kit is specifically designed as a direct bolt-on conversion for the Edelbrock 1405 manual choke carburetor. It also fits the 1406 as a replacement electric choke unit.
Q: Where should I connect the 12V wire?
A: Connect to a key-on 12V source such as the ignition coil positive terminal, the IGN terminal on the fuse box, or a switched 12V circuit. Do not connect to constant 12V — the choke element will drain the battery when the engine is off.
Q: How do I adjust the choke?
A: The choke housing has index marks. Rotate clockwise (richer) for colder climates or engines that need more warm-up enrichment. Rotate counter-clockwise (leaner) for warm climates. The factory setting (center mark) works well for most applications in temperate regions.
Q: Do I need to re-jet after installing the electric choke?
A: No. The choke only affects cold-start and warm-up enrichment. Once the engine reaches operating temperature, the choke is fully open and has zero effect on the main fuel circuit.
Q: Can I install this without removing the carburetor?
A: Yes — the choke housing is accessible on the passenger side of the carburetor and can be swapped with the carburetor installed on the engine. The job typically takes 15-30 minutes.
