Installation
- Locate the air bleeder screw on top of the fuel filter housing (black plastic knob with a hex head).
- Using a socket or wrench, carefully unscrew the old bleeder screw. If it's already broken, use an easy-out or carefully pry out the remaining plastic threads.
- Clean the threaded hole with a rag or compressed air to remove any plastic debris.
- Check the O-ring on the new bleeder screw. Install into the housing and tighten to snug — do not overtighten aluminum threads into the plastic housing.
- Prime the fuel system using the priming pump on the filter housing. Open the bleeder screw slightly until fuel (not air) comes out. Close and continue priming.
- Start the engine and verify no fuel leaks around the bleeder screw.

Will this fit the L5P (2017+) Duramax?
The L5P Duramax (2017-2019 Silverado/Sierra HD) uses a different fuel filter housing design. This bleeder screw is compatible with 2001-2017 models, covering LB7, LLY, LBZ, and LMM engine codes. Verify your filter housing type before ordering.
My plastic bleeder is already broken. Can I still install this?
Yes. If the plastic screw head has snapped off but the threaded body is intact, use a small flathead screwdriver or an easy-out to remove the remaining piece. If threads are left in the housing, carefully pick them out. The aluminum replacement threads into the same clean hole.
Do I need to use thread sealant?
No. The bleeder screw seals with an O-ring at the base, not on the threads. Thread sealant or tape is not required and may interfere with the O-ring sealing surface. Just install snug and flush.
Can I overtighten this and damage the housing?
Yes — the filter housing is plastic. The billet aluminum screw is much stronger. Tighten to "snug plus a little" — roughly 25-30 inch-pounds. You'll feel the O-ring compress. Over-tightening can crack the plastic housing.
