Why Regular Generator Maintenance Matters
RV generators sit unused for months, then are expected to perform flawlessly during camping season. Stale fuel, moisture accumulation, and oil degradation are real threats. A dirty air filter reduces power output and increases fuel consumption. An old oil filter can't protect against sludge buildup. A worn spark plug causes hard starts and misfires. This kit addresses all three at once — recommended every 100 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
Installation Tips

Oil Change: Run the generator for 5 minutes to warm the oil, then drain and replace the filter. Use SAE 15W-40 diesel-rated oil (approximately 1.6 quarts for QG 5500, 2.0 quarts for QG 7000)

Air Filter: Simply unscrew the air cleaner cover, remove the old element, and drop in the new one

Fuel Filter: Pinch the fuel line before removing the old filter to minimize fuel spillage. Arrow on the new filter points toward the carburetor

Spark Plug: Gap should be 0.030" (0.76mm). Torque to 15 ft-lbs

After Service: Run the generator under load for 15 minutes to verify everything is working

Q: Will this kit work for my Onan 4000 MicroQuiet?
A: No. This kit is specifically for QG 5500/7000 and Marquis Gold series. The MicroQuiet 4000 uses different part numbers.
Q: How often should I perform this tune-up?
A: Every 100 hours of generator run time, or at least once per year before camping season. If you use your generator frequently in dusty conditions, consider more frequent air filter changes.
Q: Are these genuine Onan/Cummins parts?
A: These are premium aftermarket replacements manufactured to meet or exceed OEM specifications. Cross-reference: Cummins Onan 140-3116, 122-0836, 149-2341-01, 167-1638.
Q: Does this include the oil?
A: No. Oil is sold separately. We recommend SAE 15W-40 diesel-rated oil for optimal performance.
Q: Is this kit compatible with propane (LP) generators?
A: The air filter, oil filter, and spark plug are compatible. The fuel filter is for gasoline models only — LP generators don't use an inline fuel filter.
