Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does this kit work on the 22RE (fuel injected) engine?
A: No — the 22RE uses electronic fuel injection and does not have a carburetor. This kit is only for the carbureted 22R engine.
Q: How difficult is a 22R carburetor rebuild?
A: A patient DIYer with basic mechanical skills and a clean workspace can complete this rebuild in 2-4 hours. The Aisan 2-barrel is relatively straightforward with fewer circuits than a 4-barrel. Take photos during disassembly and keep parts organized in labeled bags.
Q: Do I need any special tools?
A: Basic hand tools are sufficient. A can of carburetor cleaner, compressed air for blowing out passages, and a clean work surface are highly recommended. A small telescoping magnet helps retrieve dropped check balls.
Q: Will this fix my hard cold-start problem?
A: If the hard start is caused by a worn accelerator pump (no fuel squirt when you pump the gas), leaking needle & seat (flooded engine), or vacuum leaks from dried gaskets, this kit will resolve those issues. If the problem is ignition-related (spark plugs, wires, timing), the carb kit alone won't fix it.
Q: Does this kit include a float?
A: No, the float is not included. If your float is saturated (brass float) or cracked (plastic float), it must be purchased separately. Test your float before ordering — a brass float that rattles or a plastic float that feels heavy has failed.
Q: Are adjustment instructions included?
A: Basic specifications (float level, idle mixture initial setting) are included. We recommend having a Toyota 22R factory service manual or Haynes/Chilton manual for detailed tuning procedures and torque specs.
