
Kubota Fuel Filter Assembly Replacement: 6A320-58862 for B, L, LX & M Series Tractors

Your Kubota's running rough at half throttle. Surges under load. Maybe it died out in the back forty and you had to walk back to the barn. Before you start pricing injection pumps — which, on a Kubota, will make your eyes water — check the fuel filter.
The 6A320-58862 is the complete fuel filter assembly that fits a wide range of Kubota compact and utility tractors: B2320, B2410, L2800, L3400, LX2610HSD, M5640SU, RTV X1100CR, and RTV X900G. It replaces part numbers 6A320-58860 and 6A320-59912. If your tractor's been sitting with biodiesel or you skipped the filter change last season, this assembly is probably what's between you and a running machine.
Three things kill these filter assemblies, and they're all preventable:
Water. Diesel absorbs moisture from the air. Your tank breathes with temperature changes — warm day, cool night, condensation forms. That water ends up in the filter bowl. The 6A320-58862 has a clear sediment bowl on the bottom for exactly this reason. If you see a layer of water in there (it'll be a distinct bubble at the bottom, diesel floats on water), you've waited too long.
Algae. Diesel algae — actually bacteria and fungi, not real algae — grows at the diesel-water interface inside your tank. It produces a black sludge that clogs filters fast. If you open the old filter and see black goo instead of clean pleated paper, you've got a tank contamination problem that a new filter alone won't fix.
Gelled fuel. Winter diesel without anti-gel additive turns to wax at about 15°F. The filter catches the wax crystals, flow stops, engine dies. If you're plowing snow at 10°F and your tractor quits, it's probably not the filter's fault — but it's the filter that takes the blame.
Step 1: Park on level ground. Shut it down. Let it cool for 20 minutes — diesels get hot, and diesel on hot metal smells like a garage fire waiting to happen.
Step 2: Locate the filter assembly. On B series, it's on the left side of the engine, mounted to the frame rail just forward of the operator station. On L and M series, it's usually on the right side near the injection pump. Follow the rubber fuel line from the tank if you can't spot it.
Step 3: Shut off the fuel. If your tractor has a fuel shutoff valve at the tank or filter head, close it. If not, clamp the supply line with a hose pinch-off tool. Don't use vise grips unless you want to buy new fuel line.
Step 4: Place your catch pan under the assembly. Loosen the hose clamps on both the inlet and outlet lines. The inlet comes from the tank (usually the larger line), the outlet goes to the injection pump. Slide the hoses off the barbs — they'll be stuck. Twist, don't yank.
Step 5: Remove the two 10mm bolts holding the filter bracket to the frame. The whole assembly — bracket, filter head, filter element, and sediment bowl — comes out as one unit.
Step 6: Install your new iFJF 6A320-58862 Fuel Filter Assembly. Bolt the bracket back in — 10mm, hand-snug then a quarter turn. These go into threaded inserts in the frame, not nuts. Don't strip them.
Step 7: Reconnect the fuel lines. Push them all the way onto the barbs — you should feel them bottom out. Position the clamps behind the barb flare, not on the very end. Tighten until the clamp just starts to dig into the rubber. That's enough.
Step 8: Open the fuel shutoff. Check for leaks at both connections — diesel should weep immediately if there's a bad seal.
Step 9: Bleed the system. Most Kubotas have a bleed screw on top of the filter head — it's a 10mm hex. Loosen it one turn. Pump the manual primer (the round knob on top of the filter head) until bubble-free fuel comes out of the bleed screw. Tighten the screw. Pump 3-4 more times until you feel resistance. This primes the injection pump.
Step 10: Start it. It might crank for 5-10 seconds longer than usual — normal. Once it catches, let it idle for 2-3 minutes. Check for leaks again. Rev it to half throttle a few times, then take it for a lap around the property.
This assembly fits B2320, B2410, L2800, L3400, LX2610HSD, M5640SU, RTV X1100CR, RTV X900G, and cross-references with OEM part numbers 6A320-58860 and 6A320-59912. If your tractor is in the B, L, LX, or M compact/utility series from roughly 2005-2020, this is likely your filter assembly. Check your operator's manual or look at the number stamped on your existing assembly.
Kubota says every 400 hours or annually, whichever comes first. If you're using biodiesel (B5 or higher), cut that to every 200 hours. If you buy your diesel from a high-turnover station (truck stop, farm co-op), you can stretch to 500 hours. If you fill from a 55-gallon drum that's been sitting since last planting season, change it every 200 hours regardless.
Yes — if the housing, bracket, and seals are in good shape. But the complete 6A320-58862 assembly replaces everything: filter head, element, sediment bowl, bracket, and seals — all pre-assembled. For $33, it's usually worth doing the whole unit. If your existing assembly is less than 2 years old and the bowl isn't cracked, an element-only swap works fine.
A few small bubbles right after install are normal — trapped air working its way out. If you still see a steady stream of bubbles after 30 minutes of runtime, you've got an air leak on the suction side. Check the hose connections, the bleed screw, and the primer pump seal.
The iFJF 6A320-58862 is a direct-fit replacement that matches OEM specifications. It includes the correct 10-micron filtration media specified for Kubota rotary injection pumps. Using a filter with the wrong micron rating — too coarse and you don't protect the pump, too fine and you starve it for fuel.
