Product Overview
Upgrade your GM LS engine's oiling system with the iFJF Billet Aluminum Oil Bypass & Barbell Kit. The factory plastic barbell (oil gallery plug) in LS engines is a known failure point — when it cracks or deteriorates, you lose oil pressure to the rear of the engine, often leading to catastrophic bearing failure. Our CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum replacement eliminates this risk permanently.
Designed for all GM LS-based engines including LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, LQ4, LQ9, and LSX variants. Whether you're doing an LS swap, rebuilding, or just performing preventive maintenance, this kit is essential insurance for your engine.
Key Features
-
CNC-Machined 6061-T6 Billet Aluminum — Will never crack, shrink, or deteriorate like stock plastic
-
Complete Kit — Includes oil bypass barbell + rear cover alignment dowels
-
Precision O-Ring Grooves — Properly machined for leak-free oil gallery sealing
-
Anodized Finish — Corrosion-resistant for long-term reliability
-
Lifetime Warranty — Built to outlast your engine
Why Replace the Stock Plastic Barbell?
The OEM plastic barbell oil plug is a cost-cutting part that degrades over time from heat cycling and oil exposure. When it fails:
- Oil pressure drops (especially at idle)
- Rear main bearings and cam bearings starve for oil
- Engine damage can occur within seconds of pressure loss
- Common failure point on high-mileage and high-performance LS builds
If you're rebuilding an LS or pulling the rear cover for any reason, replace the plastic barbell with billet aluminum — it's cheap insurance against a multi-thousand-dollar engine failure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to pull the engine to install this?
A: No. The barbell is located behind the rear engine cover (between engine and transmission). It's accessible when the transmission or rear cover is removed — common during clutch replacement, rear main seal service, or engine rebuild. On some vehicles, you can access it by removing the rear cover with the engine in the vehicle.
Q: Will this fit my 2004 Silverado 5.3L LM7?
A: Yes. This kit fits ALL Gen III and Gen IV LS-based engines regardless of displacement. The oil gallery design is universal across the LS platform.
Q: Is this just the barbell, or does it include the rear cover?
A: This kit includes the billet aluminum barbell (oil gallery plug) and alignment dowels. The rear cover is NOT included — you reuse your factory rear cover or aftermarket replacement.
Q: Do I need sealant to install this?
A: The barbell uses O-rings for sealing — no sealant required. Just lubricate the O-rings with clean engine oil before installation and ensure the bores are clean.
Q: Is this necessary for a stock rebuild?
A: Highly recommended. The factory plastic barbell costs pennies to produce and is a known failure point even on stock engines. For the cost of this kit vs. a potential engine failure, it's a no-brainer.
